September Savings Guide: What’s Worth Buying on Sale?

Not every discount is a bargain. Here’s how to spot the deals that actually save you money.

September can be an interesting month for bargain hunters. Summer promotions are still appearing, while retailers are also beginning to introduce new-season products and prepare for the months ahead.

That creates opportunities, but also plenty of temptation.

Current UK sales include reductions on fashion, homeware, electronics and appliances, with some sale events reaching substantial discounts.

💷 Before you click “Buy”, ask yourself:

Do I need it?
A 50% discount isn't a saving if you wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Is the price genuinely good?
Compare prices across several retailers.

Will I use it regularly?
Prioritise things that provide real value over time.

Can I get it cheaper elsewhere?
Check vouchers, cashback, loyalty schemes and delivery charges.

Does the offer expire soon?
Some promotions are genuinely short-lived, so check the terms before waiting.

The golden rule: Shop the discount, not because of the discount.
